Yearbook Ideas: Questions to Ask

student questions for yearbook ideas

Be it the classmate you’ve spent most of your time with, or the person you’ve bumped into time and time again in the hallways, but never dared to approach… there are questions you can ask to find out more about someone. However, finding and thinking of questions to ask can be intimidating, so much so that it almost ends up creating nothingness in our heads that prevents us from thinking like a normal human being.

To help you find questions to ask that offer a balance between information, interest and the possibility of an answer, we’ve thought of a few questions that you can add to your yearbook to learn more about all the people, both students and teachers, who have surrounded you during this school year.

Yearbook Ideas: Questions for Students

Questions to Ask to Make Your Yearbook More Personal

Although this is one of the main reasons, adding questions to ask in your yearbook doesn’t just give you the chance to add a personal touch or learn more about your classmates. It also means you don’t forget all the little things that made your classmates so special.

In short, by encouraging your classmates to answer questions to share what they think, remember and hope for, you make your yearbook more interesting, and at the same time give you a better understanding of your classmates’ different experiences, views and personalities, which reinforces the feeling of being on this school adventure together and creates memories you’ll cherish later.

Find out more about your classmates with these questions that encourage them to share their experiences at school, how they preferred to spend their free time… There are so many questions to ask so that you can remember what it was like to be a student at your school and see how your experiences compare.

  • Favourite school dinner
  • Three words to describe your school
  • Describe your final year in three words
  • Favourite school sports event
  • Favourite extracurricular activity
  • Society membership
  • Favourite art project

Questions to Ask about Students

Are you curious by nature and have you ever wondered about certain people’s tastes? Well, why not force fate just a little with these questions to find out more about what makes each of your classmates so unique? Who can accuse you of being too curious… No one would know who asked… Right?

  • Which mobile do you have?
  • Most-used mobile app
  • Favourite YouTuber
  • How many YouTube subscribers do you have?
  • Most talked about film / TV show
  • Your biggest fashion faux-pas

Questions to ask for Longer Answers

Encourage your classmates to finish whatever ink is left in their pens by adding a few questions to ask that are open-ended enough for you to write long answers. These questions are ideal way to learn more about the year that’s just gone by and the ones that lie ahead, and to satisfy your curiosity.

  • What’s your favourite school memory?
  • Which was your favourite event, and why?
  • Most embarrassing moment
  • What’s your school, class or year group tradition?
  • What are your plans for the next 12 months?
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
  • What are your life goals for the next 10 years?
  • Which travel locations are on your bucket list?
  • Which teacher / tutor / staff member has given you most inspiration?
  • What has been the biggest change in your life during school?

Random Questions to Ask

Let your imagination run wild by adding random questions to ask. Whether you’re trying to get your classmates to imagine themselves in unusual situations or adding a few fun ones, these questions are perfect for adding a touch of silliness in your yearbook! The best part is that these questions don’t even have to be logical! They don’t even have to make sense… or just a little bit!

  • Who would you take on a road trip, and why?
  • Who would be in your school band and what would they play?
  • If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would it be?
  • Who would you invite to a tea party?
  • What would you ditch school prom for?
  • If your life was a movie, which movie would it be?
  • Which food item can’t you like without?
  • If you could volunteer anywhere for a month, where would it be? What would you do there?

Questions to Ask for Teachers

The best for last! You’ve spent hours and hours in their company, but what do you know about the teachers who have spent months passing on all their knowledge to you? Take this opportunity to ask your favourite teachers all the questions that are burning your lips. What’s more, it’s the perfect way to make sure you never forget them.

  • What’s your ‘go to’ song for the journey to school?
  • What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
  • Most embarrassing teacher moment
  • Who/what inspired you to become a teacher?
  • What’s your best party trick?
  • What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday night?
  • What would be your dream destination for the summer holidays?
  • What is your favourite food?
  • What one piece of advice would you give to your students?
  • What’s your favourite quote?
  • If you could take your leavers on one last school trip anywhere, where would it be?
  • How do you think your students will remember you?

How to collect answers to your yearbook questions

You’ve now selected the questions you want to include in your Yearbook. Now all you have to do is ask them and collect the answers from your classmates. Right, you’re probably thinking that this is easier said than done. In fact, it’s really not. There are several ways to make it as easy as possible.

Take advantage of free online survey tools such as Survey Monkey or Typeform, which are really quick and easy to set up. If you have a Facebook or WhatsApp group with your classmates, send them the survey link and give them a clear deadline for submitting their responses.

Your yearbook promises to be full of gossip!
